-Yup'iks are a tribe of Eskimos. Eskimos are a specific division of Native Americans. So yes, Yup'iks are Native Americans, essentially.
How do you get to school?
-I will be walking to schools on most days... That reminds me, I have to order snowpants and boots!
Will you see polar bears?
-Not really, they live in the more northern part of AK.
What have you been eating?
-Salmon, Salmon, Salmon!! My favorite kind of fish! I have also had moose stew and a lot of pizza. I have a lot of salad, eggs, and peanut butter because they don't take a lot of prep!
What will take the most getting used to?
-The people. They are sweet and kind, but they are a blunt people-whether they are white or native, if they grew up in Bethel, AK they are blunt. They aren't afraid to say "no, that isn't right"--I'm used to people saying "that's a good idea, but I think this is what they mean..."
What is the best thing you've done so far in Bethel?
a. spend 3 - 4 hours on the river :) God is an amazing creator!
b. attend a fiddle dance and dance with people about half my size (for most of the night)--I did learn how to foxtrot and two-step...
